Today’s contestants:
Jack Karimi, a postgraduate student from Northwest London![]() |
Gemma Redman, a clinical performance manager from Somerset![]() |
Ben Jones, a hotel receptionist from Caerphilly (6-day total: £38,230)![]() |
Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
After surviving quite a scare on yesterday afternoon’s episode, Caerphilly’s Ben Jones enters today’s game as a 6-day champion. He’s looking to pick up win number seven against Somerset’s Gemma Redman and Northwest London’s Jack Karimi. I’ll be honest: it’s reaching a point where I think Ben is such a strong player that he might even win out the rest of the season. (Which would then put production in quite a spot if the show gets a Series 3, especially after how they completely forgot about Archi Campbell. That being said, if I was ITV, I might give greenlighting a celebrity series for charity a shot, assuming Sony and CBS get their arguments settled Stateside.)
I should also note that the next episode will not be airing until Tuesday, due to tomorrow being Good Friday and Monday being Easter Monday.

Random ramble incoming…
Considering Ben would end the series at 10 wins and somewhere around £63,000 if he were to continue winning at the rate he’s been winning, the already completely bull[bleep] reason to not bring Archi Campbell back would just become even more bull[bleep]. That would pretty much be the equivalent of not bringing Ken Jennings back after his 38th win, or not bringing Matt Amodio back after his 18th win, here on the US version. (For the British viewers who may not know – both Ken’s and Matt’s streaks were roughly halfway split up between Seasons 20 and 21, in Ken’s case, and Seasons 37 and 38, in Matt’s case.) I know Archi commented that the producers of the British version basically said “nah, nobody would remember you” when he asked if he would be brought back for the Series 2 premiere – which, to me, is legitimately a Mike Richards-tier decision. If a champion wins the last game of a season or series, they deserve to be brought back for the debut of the next one. Period. Full stop. Exclamation point!
Alright, ramble over. I look forward to seeing how Game #7 goes for Ben!
I don’t drink at all, but I knew that “master” in Germany translated roughly to “meister”, so it was just a matter of putting that together with the fact that “deer” roughly translates to “jäger”, and there I had it – Jägermeister. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten back-to-back Final gets in the UK version, so I’m feeling pretty accomplished. 🙂
That’s all the bragging I can justify today, though, because WOW, Ben was absolutely unbelievable. I thought for sure that the game would be coming down to the wire after the first two Jeopardy rounds; then, Ben just stepped on the gas and absolutely TORCHED Double Jeopardy, and I can only imagine how thrilling that must have been for those who were actually able to watch it! While today’s game could have easily seen a new one-day record on the UK version, given his interview subject, I’m not going to judge Ben in the slightest for not feeling confident in the category and betting just £200; it’s his money, he can do what he wants with it, and he’s still a 7-day Jeopardy champion – and, to my knowledge, the only person on the UK version to have crossed over £7,000 before Final can even be played. Tip of my hat to Ben today for an absolutely remarkable performance – and I definitely agree with Andy that ITV should look into adding another Chaser to their lineup!
Hunting/hunter translates to Jäger, not deer* oops!
Right, but giving you the benefit of the doubt, I thought maybe it means both.
The clue implied that Jäger meant hunting/hunter and for several reasons I already knew German for master is meister. Neither my husband nor I drink beer [though we tried it once at the famous Gilley’s] and we don’t really know German but have been bombarded by TV beer commercials for many decades so I do know many brand names. A decade ago I had wondered why the robot-like mechs [the Jaegers] in the movie ‘Pacific Rim’ were named for a beer, so today I immediately thought of those as being hunters which gave me Jägermeister.
As a British fan of the US version (thanks to resources like you, Jeopardy Fan!), appearing on Jeopardy was always a bit of a pipe dream for me. I was probably one of the first to get my application in for Series 1, but I ended up having to withdraw after audition because I’d been selected to appear on another UK quiz show institution, Only Connect, which I did in 2023-24 (along with Dan Afshar and Lewis Jones, who also appeared on this series of Jeopardy!).
I thought my appearance in Series 2 would meet the same fate. This time, my filming date fell right at the end of my postgraduate course, and I’m immensely grateful to the Jeopardy producers for agreeing to move it to accommodate me. It was probably sub-optimal to film 4 days after finishing my course, but I wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass me by twice, and I ended up turning it into a bit of a celebration.
It was an unfortunate game for me. Not just being up against Ben Jones, who’s a great quizzer and even greater person, but a really tough set of questions for me. I realised I had to dig in and take risks, but it just didn’t pay off. Still, I came to have fun, be myself, and enjoy the experience, and I certainly felt I did that.
Thanks so much for your informative comment!
Thanks Jack and well done. Also, well done to you and the Thrifters for winning that series of Only Connect!
Yes to Ben as a Chaser, great idea!
Thank you to MasterDoge for the points about Archi above and the context about Ken and Matt. I hadn’t realised they had turned him down; very poor decision to do so as you say.
Enjoyed the Edinburgh Festival category; like Jack I don’t know what that says about me though!
I got there with Jaegermeister in the end. I have had it a few times; unfortunately they were all on the same evening and I can’t really remember what it was like or much else from that evening. Not tried it again!
LOL about your having Jaegermeister in the past.
I believe Andy had written about Archi Campbell’s circumstance before, but it might have been in a “coming attracts” sort of section within some daily post prior to UK Series 2 airing, so you might not have started reading by then.
Thanks Lisa, yes you’re right. I think I read Andy’s comment at the time but just assumed that we didn’t know the circumstances as to why Archi wasn’t in episode 1. I’ve just re-read the blog for the March 17 episode and found that Archi was good enough to leave a comment under that blog to explain what happened. Very disappointed for him.
