(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Sarah Cox, a chief of staff from Austin, Texas
Sarah Cox on Jeopardy!
Tom Thriveni, a writer from Los Angeles, California
Tom Thriveni on Jeopardy!
Katie Kornacki, a professor of English from Hartford, Connecticut (1-day total: $20,000)
Katie Kornacki on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

It’s time for a new week of play on Jeopardy!, as Katie Kornacki starts the week as your defending champion. She faces off against challengers Tom Thriveni and Sarah Cox, who isn’t returning to the show after 34.5 years—that’s Sara Cox, the Maine teacher who, in October 1990, became the second of four players to tie two separate regular play games.

Allison Maher Stern was the model who posed as the swimmer on the book cover (and later movie poster) of Peter Benchley’s Jaws, the 1974 book that turned into the smash hit summer blockbuster film of 1975.

As someone who very easily associates events to years, I found this to be a very straightforward Final Jeopardy clue. Others may differ.

10 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, June 16, 2025"

  1. Easy one for me. On a speaking tour many years ago that I went to, Stephen King mentioned how when his book Carrie came out in 1974, the cover was just an after thought because all the top folks were working on the cover for ‘Jaws’.

  2. 1974 gave it to me.

  3. The name Allison Stern threw me for a moment because I remembered Alison being the name of Howard Stern’s first wife, but then I glanced at the year again and the answer came to me immediately. Last night at a store I noticed a commemorative magazine for the anniversary of the movie, not to mention a collection of Mad movie parodies featuring their version of the iconic image, so it was already brewing in my subconscious.

  4. The year gave it to me and the clue…JAWS…The movie that I saw on opening day, which was very hard to do back then…

  5. Allison is married to Leonard Stern, a photographer. She’s a leader of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

  6. Person ‘swimming’ horizontally, book cover-1974. Guess I’m dating myself, but it took about two seconds to guess Jaws. I remember reading the book in junior high about the time the movie came out .

    • Robert J. Fawkes | June 16, 2025 at 6:50 pm |

Same, except that I was well past junior high, college, and graduate school when the movie came out. In fact, I was well into my career by then. So, don’t worry about dating yourself as you are young to me.

  7. I knew FJ immediately. I remember noting the swimmer on the poster when I was looking at it outside of the movie theater.

  8. I might have figured it out from the date (as a big year in my life) but I took the clue too literally, assuming it must have been a pun or sight gag or something (related to a book about some sort of psychological situation) with the stools actually being part of the photo. Knowing I did not know ANYTHING like that I quit trying.

  9. Knew this one immediately! Saw this in a double feature with King Kong. And this was also recently on my mind, as NBC is showing it on TV this coming Friday as an homage to its 50th anniversary. Also, many streaming services are showing it at the moment as well.
