Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The 1960s) for Tuesday, June 17, 2025 (Season 41, Game 202):
Following the Baptist Church bombing in 1963, MLK telegrammed him that the blood of 4 girls “is on your hands”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Stefany Meyer, a data analyst from Burke, Virginia![]() |
Dan Hopkins, a teacher from Hanover, New Hampshire![]() |
Sarah Cox, a chief of staff from Austin, Texas (1-day total: $15,050)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
We have a new champion on Jeopardy! in Austin, Texas’s Sarah Cox, proving once again that Austin has some of the best trivia players in America with a runaway victory on yesterday’s show. Today, she faces off against New Hampshire teacher Dan Hopkins and Virginia data analyst Stefany Meyer (who I’m sure has been the target of way too many Twilight references over the past two decades.)

In the aftermath of Alabama Governor George Wallace’s 1963 inaugural address, most infamously known for the line “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever”, racial violence against Black Americans, especially in Alabama, increased. This culminated in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, where three 14-year-old girls and one 11-year-old girl was killed by the bomb. In the aftermath, MLK immediately sent a telegram to Governor Wallace, stating “the blood of our little children is on your hands”.
To me, this is one of those Final Jeopardy clues that whatever the get rate is, I believe the get rate should be higher than it actually ends up playing.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Dan $16,000 Stefany $10,600 Sarah $8,000)
Sarah: You have to be correct to win. Bet at least $2,800—but you might as well go all in (or really close to it) in order to maximize winnings (and force Stefany to make a cover bet.) (Actual bet: $7,000)
Dan: Standard cover bet over Stefany is $5,201. (Actual bet: $5,201)
Stefany: Cover bet over Sarah is $5,401. Being that she has to be correct to win, she has occasion to go all in—therefore, you should cover her. Additionally, you also have to be correct to win, which is even further reason to make the cover bet here. (Actual bet: $2,000)

I was way off. I guessed J Edgar Hoover.
Impeccable timing by Jeopardy! writers once again….
This headline, just this morning…
Trump removes Martin Luther King bust from White House in latest disrespectful move.

🙁
I went too specific on this one and said Bull Connor.
Actually, Bull Connor was not a bad guess. It was my first choice, but within 30 seconds I thought (I watched the episode on TV), maybe … it’s George Wallace.
I was thinking RFK not JFK because he was the AG
Got it right, and I think being alive at the time helped. I wonder how familiar, if at all, today’s players are with Wallace and his place in history. Their ages may have placed them at a disadvantage.
But I thought that was Richard Harris and Michael Gambon…
I believe Andy is making a reference to the Harry Potter TV show (in which John Lithgow was cast as Professor Dumbledore) that is now in production.
Living in Birmingham, Alabama in the 1960s helped me get today’s FJ right.
I got this one. Although I was totally opposed to Wallace and his VP candidate Curtis “Curtains” LeMay, I attended a 1968 Boston rally for his presidential run. It was a bit of history that I wanted to witness. He was a fiery speaker and expert at responding to hecklers.
Having lived through that era, this was pretty well fixed in my memory so it came to me right away. At first, I thought this would be a triple get but, then, it occurred to me that today’s contestants would be much too young to have lived through this part of history so that they would have no memory of those times. At that point, I decided it would be a triple stumper for today’s contestants (as it proved to be). This was one of those finals that getting it would depend on what generation you were from; easy for my generation, difficult for younger ones.
My first guess was Bull Connor, but within 30 seconds I thought (I watched the episode on TV), maybe … it’s George Wallace.
I really thought it would be the then governor of Alabama but as I could not recall who that was, I guessed Robert F. Kennedy. With RFK being U.S. Attorney General, I feel that was a better guess than JFK.
I guessed JFK, but that sure didn’t seem right. I briefly said Strom Thurmond. Stuck with JFK. Not knowing that the church was in Alabama didn’t help me. Had I known that bit of info, I might have gravitated to Wallace.
