Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, July 30, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the July 30, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on January 29, 2025.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category English Literature) for Wednesday, July 30, 2025 (Season 41, Game 103):

Part II of this 17th century work says, “I see myself now at the end of my journey; my toilsome days are ended”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Neilesh Vinjamuri, a software engineer from Lionville, Pennsylvania
Neilesh Vinjamuri on Jeopardy!
Weckiai Rannila, an engineer from Albuquerque, New Mexico
Weckiai Rannila on Jeopardy!
Greg Jolin, a system specialist & accountant from Raymond, New Hampshire
Greg Jolin on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

The encore presentation of the 32nd Tournament of Champions continues with quarterfinal #3, which featured Greg Jolin, Weckiai Rannila, and Neilesh Vinjamuri. As I said back in January, “the prediction model thinks that Greg is actually the strongest player in this field at the moment; he would be favored overall if not for the fact that he was fourth in victories and thus has to get through a quarterfinal. And, as we’ve seen so far, anything can happen. Neilesh and Weckiai are a pair of 3-game winners who were in the top players ranked by wins and money over the past season—while 5 wins guarantees you a spot, the show does need to take more players in order to fill out the field—this is something that has happened for the past 40 years and really shouldn’t be a source of confusion amongst Jeopardy! fans.”

Things definitely did not turn out that way, as you’ll see below in the recap. Back in January, I compared Neilesh’s performance in this quarterfinal to what Brad Rutter did back in 2001 to Doug Lach (who was definitely seen as the consensus #1 seed going into that Tournament of Champions) and Bob Fleenor.

In other Jeopardy! news, I have updated my Tournament of Champions tracker due to the announcement yesterday that there will be just 10 more weeks of the qualification period for the 33rd Tournament of Champions, scheduled for Winter 2026. Of course, things could change further, especially if the format changes further. This is just speculation at this point, but it would not surprise me if the show was considering expanding the postseason by three weeks, doing an extra week of Second Chance and an extra Champions Wildcard event. (I’d absolutely be in favor of this, for the record.)

Cited as the first novel ever written in English, The Pilgrim’s Progress is a 1678 work by John Bunyan written in two parts. Presented as a dream sequence, Christian, its protagonist, journey from his hometown, the “City of Destruction” to the “Celestial City”. A false third part was anonymously written in 1693 but was soon denounced, even though it remained popular.

Because this might come up from various pedants around the Internet today, a reminder as to the show’s rules: leading articles may be added, changed to another leading article, or dropped without rendering a response incorrect; thus, The Pilgrim’s Progress, A Pilgrim’s Progress, and Pilgrim’s Progress are all considered to be equally correct by the show.

  1. I thought Gulliver’s Travels but that’s a bit later.

  2. WWORDuke summed this episode up pretty well on Discord when it originally aired – “Well, I was 2/3 on DDs and got FJ, so maybe I can be a competitive viewer in the Tourngets hit by a truck

I do feel bad for Greg and Weckiai, because I think both of them are MUCH stronger players than this result really shows (plus, it’s always sad to see a New Hampshirite lose), but man… until you get to Masters and some scattered higher-echelon JIT players (Troy Meyer, Shane Whitlock, Larissa Kelly, etc.), I don’t think there’s many players that could’ve kept up with the utter force of nature that was Neilesh today. The dude was simply incredible and is a very worthy ToC champion and addition to the Masters field, even if the latter tournament didn’t end up working out for him.

There was a question in which the answer was “Amen Corner” referring to the Masters golf tournament. Can anybody give me the exact question. The category was about church terms.

    • RELIGIOUS WORDS & PHRASES $2000: The 11th, 12th & 13th holes at Augusta National, or an area of a church for parishioners giving often fervent responses
