Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Science Records) for Tuesday, October 7, 2025 (Season 42, Game 22):
It was introduced in 1992 & the record 43.3 was set in the high Andes, where stratospheric ozone levels are naturally low
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Claudine Lewis, an elementary school teacher originally from St. Louis, Missouri![]() |
Slade Gilmer, a paint quality team member originally from Russellville, Alabama![]() |
TJ Fisher, a marketing specialist from San Francisco, California (3-day total: $59,924)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
With just over a month remaining until the postseason cutoff, even the three wins from TJ Fisher are looking good for Tournament of Champions qualification. But nothing is guaranteed (barring death or personal misconduct, of course) until he reaches five victories, and certainly both Slade Gilmer and Claudine Lewis will want to end TJ’s streak at 3 games. That being said, TJ’s buzzer % (per the boxscores) dropped yesterday into the high 60% range from the 70s and 80s that he was in last week. If the buzzer % stays in the 60s, that would prove to be good news for today’s challengers.
Continuing on from yesterday’s editorial, with one thing I haven’t posted yet of that would be within the realm of the show to potentially do, at least in order to curtail my accusations of unfairness between Second Chance and Champions Wildcard: take one of the Second Chance weeks and just invite “fan favorite” champions who didn’t qualify for Champions Wildcard to play for a spot in the Champions Wildcard event. That way, you at least have a potential pathway for those 1-time champions to continue their journey without being in a state of eternal Jeopardy! purgatory.

Correct response: What is the UV index (ultraviolet index)?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Used to measure the strength of ultraviolet radiation reaching the Earth’s surface, and therefore the likelihood of sunburned skin, the ultraviolet index was developed in 1992 as a linear 0-to-10 scale, with 0 being zero UV radiation (as would usually occur at night) and 10 corresponding to midday summer sunlight in the tropics with a clear sky and normal ozone levels. Since the index’s adoption, though, other environmental factors (such as ozone depletion, higher albedo levels due to increased reflectivity off water, or high altitudes) have led to readings higher than 10, with the record reading being 43.3.
The key to this clue, in my opinion, are the words “ozone” and “low”; from there, remembering environmental science classes should hopefully get viewers and players to the UV index. It’s also never a bad idea to remind the home viewers about environmental impacts, in my opinion.
