(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The important part of this Final Jeopardy, as part of the Sermon on the Mount, comes from Matthew 6:19-20 KJV: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: / But lay up for yourselfes treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal”.

Honestly, I am glad that this is generally a universal translation—both the KJV and more modern translations translate “kleptai” the same way—as I don’t think we need a(nother) controversy of Biblical proportions on the show. That said, the “klept”-to-“thief” translation from Greek should be pretty straightforward for most fans and players at this level.

  1. Despite the fact that I have already seen this episode when it originally aired, I forgot what the response was, but I initially said (today) thievery (for kleptai). But I then quickly changed my response to thieves. It pays to know what ‘Kleptai” means
