America was the yacht that began famous in the mid-19th century for winning the race around the Isle of Wight, part of the 1851 Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta. The trophy it won was later donated to the New York Yacht Club, becoming the famed America’s Cup series of yacht races.
As I said when this first aired, the key to this clue was knowing that the America’s Cup was named for a yacht named America and not directly for the country itself.

That, of course, insulated him quite well from the Triple Stumper that ensued in Final Jeopardy; his 4th victory brought his total to $96.415. He goes for win #5 in next weekend’s encore presentation against Rhyne Modlin and Ellen Goldlust.
