Warning: This page contains spoilers for the February 27, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Companies) for Friday, February 27, 2026 (Season 42, Game 125):
Historian Louis Hyman wrote this company’s sales method undid the power of the “consumerism of Jim Crow”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Tim Leung, a technical trainer from Fitchburg, Wisconsin
|
Diana Miller, an attorney from Richmond, Virginia
|
James Hirsch, a lawyer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (3-day total: $67,418)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Yesterday, James Hirsh picked up his third victory and has guaranteed at least a spot in Champions Wildcard. However, he would still be very squarely on the Tournament of Champions bubble without another victory today. In order to get that victory, he’ll need to beat Diana Miller of Virginia and Tim Leung of Wisconsin.
This is also a reminder that we’re still two weeks away from the start of Celebrity Jeopardy! All-Stars; much like the last three years, those will be airing in primetime (Fridays at 8:00 PM on ABC)—different from when you’d normally watch the show.

Correct response: What is Sears?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
In a 2018 New York Times opinion piece following Sears’s filing for bankruptcy protection, Louis Hyman wrote about how the famous Sears catalog “undid the power of the storekeeper, the landlord, and by extension, the racially marked consumerism of Jim Crow.” In local stores in the American South at the time, shopkeepers were permitted to discriminate against Black customers; Sears, who did not discriminate who they sold to, found profit in what was nonetheless seen as radical for the time.
Interestingly, a point that Hyman made at the end of his article still rings true, in my opinion: “In some ways, the freedom of the Sears catalog is echoed in how online shopping allows transgender people to buy clothes without being harassed and African-Americans to browse without being followed down the aisles.”
This is one of those Final Jeopardy clues where I honestly don’t believe it matters one iota whether it goes 0/3, 3/3, or anywhere in between: it’s gettable for sure, but it also is designed to make you think about the world around you.

Game Recap:
Much like Kevin Kodama did on Wednesday, James had the opportunity to put this one away on the last Daily Double. However, James went for the smaller Daily Double bet, leaving himself vulnerable to be caught in the Final Jeopardy Round by both Diana and Tim.
And caught James was in Final Jeopardy, after Diana was the only player to give a correct response on the game’s final clue. That makes her champion over the weekend; she’ll be back to defend on Monday.
Scores going into Final:
James $16,400
Diana $11,600
Tim $9,800
Tonight’s results:
Tim $9,800 – $0 = $9,800 (What is ??? Thank you everyone!)
Diana $11,600 + $4,799 = $16,399 (What is Sears + Roebuck?) (1-day total: $16,399)
James $16,400 – $6,818 = $9,582 (What is Coca Cola)

Game Stats:
Diana $13,000 Coryat, 18 correct, 2 incorrect, 29.82% in first on buzzer (17/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Tim $9,800 Coryat, 14 correct, 3 incorrect, 26.32% in first on buzzer (15/57), 1/2 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)
James $15,400 Coryat, 20 correct, 3 incorrect, 36.84% in first on buzzer (21/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $38,200
Diana Miller, to win:
2 games: 41.507%
3: 17.228%
4: 7.151%
5: 2.968%
6: 1.232%
Avg. streak: 1.710 games.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- A bet of $10,000 on the last Daily Double would have given James a runaway entering Final Jeopardy. Interesting to see this situation happen after the discourse from Wednesday is still simmering…
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: James $16,400 Diana $11,600 Tim $9,800)
James: Standard cover bet is $6,801. (Actual bet: $6,818)
Diana: You can’t both cover Tim and win a Triple Stumper. However, Tim does have occasion to bet small. If you do feel you need to cover Tim, though, bet at least $8,001 (but all-in is viable as well). If you do think he’ll bet small, a bet between $0 and $1,599 works.(Actual bet: $4,799)
Tim: A bet between $0 and $199 stays ahead of James if he bets to cover. (Actual bet: $0)
