My Coryat for this weekend’s rerun, which originally aired 12-7-11, was 20000 (22200 without negs). Not to beat a dead horse but this episode aired the day I taped the show myself.

Sonrisa is defending for the first time today. Does she not remind you of Pam Mueller? I didn’t keep track of my Coryat on Sonrisa’s first game Friday, because I was in a funk and wouldn’t have done the show justice. And I don’t know why there’s no recap. I’m just sorry.
Big Ben found the first Daily Double today, in Vertical Landmarks. He’d gotten 5 right and had 2200. Jacob, whose outfit I love by the way, had gotten one wrong and was in the hole 600. Sonrisa had gotten 3 right and had 800. Ben said, “Let’s go to work, bet it all please” before seeing this clue: “The 2 towers of this bridge completed in 1937 are 746 feet high & 4,200 feet apart; that’s about 4/5 of a mile.” Ben got it right!
At the first break, Sonrisa had one more right and 1200. Jacob got out of the hole (200) after 2 right. Ben got 3 more right and had 5400.
It’s too bad Ursula didn’t see this clue in the fun Celebrity Pals: “Come on, Vogue! Anna Wintour has given fashion advice to this Wimbledon-winning Swiss guy pal.” Vamos!
We were given the “less-than-a-minute” warning with 5 clues left, but we saw them all. Sonrisa had gotten 6 right since the break, and had 5800 at the end of the round. Ben had gotten 4 right and had 8000, and Jacob had gotten 3 right and one wrong and had 1800.
Double Jeopardy was a neg-fest for me. For starters, I said what Jacob did (“Jackson Browne”) on this triple-stumper in We Will Rock You: “‘The Pretender’, ‘Times Like These.'” Then I said what Sonrisa did (“St. Croix”) on this one in Caribbean Islands: “In 1648 the French & the Dutch agreed to share this ‘saintly’ 34-square mile island.”
Ben soon found the first Daily Double of the round in Next in Order. He’d gotten 8 right and had 15600. Sonrisa had gotten 3 right and one wrong and had 8600. Jacob had gotten one right and one wrong and had 1400. Ben wagered 3000 on this clue: “On the periodic table: boron, carbon, nitrogen….” Ben thought it out and got it right! And speaking of periodic table, check out this week’s Experts Show. (I haven’t seen it yet!)
I said what Sonrisa did (“Elizabeth”) on this triple-stumper in Ageless Quotes: “About this queen, Shakespeare wrote, ‘Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety.” By the way, I didn’t get any right in this category.
Sonrisa went to Family Planning then, and Jacob stuck with it til he found the other Daily Double there. He’d gotten 2 right and had 3400. Sonrisa had gotten one right and one wrong and had 9000. Ben still had 18600. This was Jacob’s clue, on which he wagered everything: “Relatives in this family include a vice president, a West Virginia senator & an Arkansas governor.” This was tough, and he and I both got it wrong. He had 10 clues to get on the plus side. Mr. Trebek gave the one-minute warning with 7 clues left, and 3 were left covered. Jacob did get one right and ended the round with 2000. Sonrisa got one wrong and 2 right, and had 8600. Ben though got one right and had 20600, enough for the lock.
The Final Jeopardy category was Novels. This was the clue: “This 1934 novel was partly written in the Hotel Pera Palace in Istanbul; the room is now a memorial to the author.” The correct author and then novel came to mind, but I ruled it out. 🙁 Poor Jacob had to hear Mr. Trebek say “You didn’t do to well” before his incorrect response was revealed. Jacob lost everything. Sonrisa and Ben got it right. Sonrisa added 4000. Mr. Trebek asked Ben “What’s that, your age?” when his wager of 29 was revealed. Ben said, “I wish.” Anyway we’ll see him tomorrow!
My Coryat today was only 11200 (16200 without negs).
