A lot of lederhosen

Good day! Andy here with a double recap.

Remember to keep voting for Ryan Chaffee every day for the decades tournament! (Ryan #JeopardyVote) is the way to do it!

For the record: I’d like to say that I agreed with the call about the misspelling of Kazakhstan on Monday’s game – Greg introduced an extra syllable into the word!

First up, Wednesday’s game, with Jane Wanninger and Matt Ahn playing against Stuart Anderson, who came in having won $16,801 on Tuesday!

Surprisingly, the video category in the J! round of HO CHI MINH CITY didn’t contain the Daily Double! They only got 3 clues done in that category, though.

In his interview, Stuart said he was going to use his winnings to go to Oktoberfest again — this time wearing lederhosen!

In Double Jeopardy, Mat, facing a Daily Double in YEAR HE, YEAR HE, bet all $4,600 of his score, but faltered on “Todd Beamer gave the heroic command “let’s roll””, saying “1944”. After being off by a year on $1600 and $2000, it was a hole he couldn’t dig out of!

Scores going into Final:
Stuart $14,400
Jane $9,400
Mat -$1,600

Final Jeopardy! category: FEMALE SINGERS

Final Jeopardy! clue: In 2013 she became only the third female singer after Aretha Franklin & Madonna to chart over 40 Top 40 hits

Jane 9400 – 9397 = 3
Stuart 14400 – 4401 = 9999

Now onto Thursday:

Korin Kormick and John Emery are the challengers for Stuart!

J! round categories:
THE ROLLING STONES
UNPACK YOUR ADJECTIVES
KENTUCKY-ANA
LANGUAGES IN THE USA
WEIGHTS & MEASURES
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

Over the first 15 clues, John had some good gets — but some ill-timed negs as well. We didn’t hear much from Korin, which surprised me that we didn’t go to break earlier, but we got through the usual complement!

Scores at the first break:

Stuart $4,600
John $800
Korin $0

Korin can whistle in two-part harmony — it sounded really good! John once bowled a 299 game!

Coming out of the break, Korin was able to get in on the buzzer a few times, which was good, but it was Stuart who played the first Daily Double, at the bottom of UNPACK YOUR ADJECTIVES. Scores:

Stuart $5,600
John $1,400
Korin $1,200

Stuart bet $3,000. His clue: “Cheerful, or tending to float in a fluid”. His correct response put him at $8,600!

We only saw 3 of the 5 clues in THE ROLLING STONES, which disappointed me, as I got the 3 that we did see! At the end of the J! round, the scores were:

Stuart $8,800
John $2,400
Korin $2,000

OTHER ROLLING STONES
COMIC BOOK WOMEN
16th CENTURY WRITING
U.S. GOVERNORS
PEAKS & VALLEYS
“V-E” DAY

COMIC BOOK WOMEN $800 — the second clue of the round — had the Daily Double, and it was John’s to play. Scores were:

Stuart $8,800
John $2,800
Korin $2,000

John bet just $1,200. His clue: When she was introduced, she worked on the Daily Star. It might have helped John to have remember that the Daily Planet was based on the current large Toronto daily paper — as “The Invisible Woman” dropped him to $1,600. Maybe it was smart of him to not bet more (as I would have).

One shocked for me: How do I know who the current governor of Arizona is, but the three contestants had no idea?

The final Daily Double was John’s as well, and it was at the $800 slot as well! PEAKS & VALLEYS was the category, and the scores were:

Stuart $14,800
John $5,200
Korin $4,400

John decided this time to go big, making it a True Daily Double! The clue: Silvius was an old name for this Swiss peak, known for its pyramid shape. John went to $10,400, earning a “well done” from Alex.

Meanwhile, all 3 contestants had some excellent gets over the final dozen or so clues, even though Stuart nearly negged for failing to phrase in the form of a question!

Scores going into Final:

Stuart $20,400
John $12,400
Korin $11,200

FJ! category: TRADEMARKS

FJ! clue: Facebook & Tivo have both claimed trademarks for an icon representing this gesture

Korin 11200 + 5800 = 17000
John 12400 + 12400 = 24800
Stuart 20400 + 4401 = 24801

Stuart’s now got a 3-day total of $51,601 — that’ll buy a lot of lederhosen!
