Jeopardy Encore Presentation Recap – August 9, 2016

This episode originally aired on November 17, 2015.

Today’s contestants:

Vaughn Winchell, a graduate student in mathematics from Columbia, MD
Brennan Bushee, a software developer from Malden, MA
Alex Jacob, a currency trader from Chicago, IL

Kaya Chua was in the audience for the semifinals and finals. She provided her thoughts for The Jeopardy! Fan back in November.

Easily the stat of the match, also one the points to how dominant Alex Jacob can be on the signalling device: It took until the 42nd clue of the match for Brennan to be first in on the signalling device. Coming into the match, Brennan had gotten in first 37.85% of the time. It was one of the most dominant performances I had seen since Ken Jennings was steamrollering opponents in 2004.

Meanwhile, as I alluded to yesterday, I watched this match during its original airing in Boston with Kerry Greene and other Jeopardy! fans. Then, Brennan Bushee stopped by afterwards to take questions! Here are my pictures from that trip.

Alex Jacob’s response to Final Jeopardy, as you’ll see below, was met with uproarious approval from the gathered masses at our viewing party.

Final Jeopardy! category: AFRICAN COUNTRIES

Final Jeopardy! clue: These 2 6-letter rhyming countries both derive their names from rivers & were both once controlled by Great Britain

the answer of “darning needle” in connection with knitting is incorrect. The only needle used in knitting is a knitting needle!

      I disagree with you, Jane.

In fact, here’s a YouTube video which explains how to use a darning needle in a sock-knitting project:

(The fact that the darning needle can possibly be used in knitting makes the clue as worded correct. The exact wording was “A tool used in knitting, or another name for a dragonfly”.)
