Correct response: What is Jaws?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
Before Jaws was a 1975 blockbuster film, it was a smash-hit 1974 book by Peter Benchley.
According to Benchley’s 2006 obituary in The Independent, the book was originally titled Silence in the Water. Jaws definitely sounds like a better name.

Strange bet by Michelle, actually by Johanna as well. Michelle was lucky that Johanna was wrong, but congratulations anyway!
I guess that’s it for Wes’ hopes for the ToC. His #15 spot will be gone probably even before the summer break.
The wagers were not what I was expecting, but it worked out for Michelle. Sometimes when the wagers are unconventional, I have to wonder if the players are engaging in third or even fourth level gamesmanship — “conventional bet for opponent would be A to cover me in case I double, so I’ll bet X instead, but if opponent predicts that their wager will be B, so I’d better put down Y, unless that’s what they’re expecting, so I’ll go with Z instead.” That’s way too much for me; first or second level is as far as I would go.
Is everyone on vacation? Is the comments section working?
It’s working for me, Maurine! I’d say many jeopardy fans are doing summer activities, though…
When Alex mentioned Peter Benchley’s “humorist” father and what he suggested for the title, I was thinking, “ROBERT Benchley could not have still been alive at that time (he was a notorious high-liver, which literally wasn’t good for his “liver,” and a founder of the Algonquin Round Table)!! But his father (and Robert’s son) was actually Nathaniel Benchley (a LOT less well-known than Robert I am thinking, who had literally more exposure due to the funny movie shorts he used to do in the 30s and 40s) And sadly, Robert Benchley’s liver only held up until 1945…
I love whenever there’s a Jaws clue because it brings to mind the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy sketch with “Sean Connery” saying “That would be Jaws(h)”
