I’m not really sure what else to say about this Final: it seems self-explanatory, albeit particularly difficult, in my opinion. Kudos to anyone who can get around the map of Europe and have time to write them all down in 30 seconds.
In the aftermath of yesterday’s events, with all of the valid votes cast that still need to be counted, I am hopeful that the pre-emptions won’t be too widespread over the coming days and weeks.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- I hope that people across North America with speech disorders can look at Keoni and feel encouraged about being able to get onto Jeopardy! and do as well as Keoni did.
- Full marks to Devin for getting all three countries down in order to claim victory.

I’ve been on the record many, many times saying I HATE HATE these types of FJ! categories…it’s a ridiculous speed race to go through the countries, and hopefully get lucky and start in the right area. The outcome should never come down to these types of clues. Of course given enough time, everyone will come up with ‘em. It’s a bush way to determine a winner. Hate it. (I know, it’s “fair”… it’s the same for all three.)
I agree with you on this one.
Only works in English. The names in their own language (Spain and Greece have more than one syllable (Reino de Espana, Hellas/Ellada)…sorry, don’t have the tilde for the “n” in Espana” on my keyboard….only France fits the bill. Although it is officially also the “French Republic”.
Would Wales also be correct?
If Wales is a UN member, that’s certainly news to me.
Wales would be part of the U.K. or Great Britain, so not an independent member of the UN. In college, I had an exchange professor from Wales who told me that “the Welsh are simply the Irish who couldn’t swim.” Great political quote.
Seriously? In what world is Laos one syllable? Unless you pronounce it like it is spelled “louse”? Which sounds rude and dismissive.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Laos gives “ˈlau̇s” as the pronunciation.
And yet, anyone from Laos is usually referred to as “Lay-oh-shun”, not “Lah-oh-shun”.
I’m a believer in Devin. Strong player.
If it is the French Republic not France why is Czech Republic not a correct answer
https://www.un.org/en/member-states/
Because it’s France per the UN and Czech Republic per the UN.
Still, the short form is Czechia.
That was a simple and straightforward Final along the lines of: How many African countries have four-letter names in English? Answer: Chad, Mali, Togo. Or how many US states have four-letter names? Answer: Iowa, Ohio, Utah. And so on. You do not have to come up with the answer in 30 seconds since you had a lifetime to think about it.
Funny, I’ve lived one of those lifetimes (for quite a while now), and I’ve never thought about it. I guess I don’t know what I’m missing! 🙂
Thanks Andy for you comment about Keoni and speech disorders. As someone who stutters, I know firsthand that in spite of some degree of improved awareness, those with speech disorders often are often perceived as being intellectually deficient. Clearly, Keoni disproved that misconception! I’m glad he did well and had it not been for that unfortunate tough FJ he would have won!
I came up with it instantaneously. Statistically, it’s shown that, compared to younger people, older individuals have slower response times in matters of recollection. Are there some The Jeopardy! Fan demographics that could shed some light on some of the comments here today?
While that may be true, you can only “re-collect” that which you have already “collected” in the first place.
And Paloma and Keoni don’t look like they’re going to be hearing from AARP anytime soon.
In Los Angeles ABC7 pushed back this week’s episodes a day due to election coverage, and then delayed this episode again for a special report update, so it finally aired at 1:07 a.m. Friday morning. Friday’s ep will air Saturday at 9 pm (assuming a football game or something doesn’t bump against it)
