Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Blockbuster Movies) for Wednesday, January 6, 2021 (Season 37, Game 73):
Released in 2017, this movie is the highest-grossing film in the U.S. that’s set during World War I
(correct response beneath the contestants)
We may have lost Alex, but the show must go on. Alex wouldn’t want it any other way. Please, let’s remember him over this final week of banked episodes, and then afford him the same respect to his successors that we afforded Alex when he replaced Art Fleming in 1984. Alex’s last episode airs Friday, January 8, 2021; Ken Jennings’ first episode as guest host airs on January 11. Please also remember that no permanent replacement has been named as of yet and that we will be seeing multiple guest hosts before the end of the season.
Today’s contestants:
Yoshie Hill, an executive assistant from Colma, California![]() |
Jared Blum, an anesthesiologist from Bellingham, Washington![]() |
Manisha Munshi, an attorney from San Francisco, California (1-day total: $7,100)![]() |
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

2017’s Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, was a Summer 2017 blockbuster film that grossed over $800 million worldwide, over $400 million in North America, and was the third-highest-grossing film overall in 2017. The premise of the film was that World War I was started by Ares, the longtime enemy of the Amazons, after American pilot (and spy) Steve Trevor crash-lands on the Amazon island of Themyscira and informs them of the war. A sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was released in December 2020.
Because of the fascist coup currently being attempted on the United States right now, there is a very good chance of Jeopardy! being pre-empted in your area tonight. So much for a peaceful transition of power. If you have been in my comments section supporting the inciters of this coup: Shame on you.

I always think that a distant third place contestant when first and second are very close to each other should wager nothing on Final. In this case Jared would have won. Do most of you agree?
Also Andy, thank you so much for condemning the activities going on in our nation’s Capital. I’m all for those who are calling on the VP to invoke the 25th Amendment!
I don’t consider $5k behind as “distant”. Plus, he possibly thought a category such as “Blockbuster Movies” would have a high chance of being right. If everyone had gotten it right, and he bet nothing, he would have lost anyway.
He may have thought Manisha would bet little knowing there was no way she could win if Yoshie bet to cover, meaning he would have to bet enough to get more than Manisha. Now, had he been so distant that he didn’t have enough to do this, then yes, bet zero. But he wasn’t that distant.
Totally agree with comments on the fanatics & traitors who stormed the Capital building. Are we living in a third world country?
In Boston Jeopardy! runs on the CBS affiliate; they switched the show to a sister station. So I got to see it. Quite ironic that one of the categories was “Your Government at Work.”
Thankfully we got the whole show in NY tonight. Seeing the incredible Alex in action tonight was a welcome balm on the disgraceful images from the Capitol today, at least for me.
More horrible wagering. Oy. Manisha should just bet $3,001, so that (A) if she’s right, she wins unless Yoshie gets it right and (B) if she’s wrong, she wins a Triple Stumper. Just insane.
Los Angeles ABC7 preempted it with the national news coverage, then showed Jeopardy at 8 pm, an hour late. So people sticking with the channel for news were probably OK but those expecting it on their DVR may have missed it. Typically they’d have put up a crawl saying it moved to 2 am so people can reset their DVR, but tonight they just showed it when the news ended (preempting the national “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” broadcast).
How much time do contestants get to do their wagering? I am sure I have seen or heard this before but don’t recall. The commercial break between the end of Double Jeopardy and the Final is roughly 4 minutes. That seems like plenty of time to do the math and betting, but do they get that much, more, or less in real time on stage?
I don’t think there is a set time. But it is much longer than the commercial break.
