Happy Tuesday! Today is David Faber’s second day as host; yesterday, $22,400 in total winnings was matched for the Robin Hood Foundation to alleviate poverty in New York City. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Asia) for Tuesday, August 3, 2021 (Season 37, Game 222):
This country became independent in 1946; in 1964 it officially switched its independence day from July 4 to June 12
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Harry Hannigan, a writer from Los Angeles, California![]() |
Christina Leone, an operations assistant from East Hartford, Connecticut![]() |
Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Connecticut (9-day total: $310,400)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Even though he dropped $15,000 in Final Jeopardy!, Matt had another very dominating victory. His incorrect response per-game average is still over 4; that could prove to be his undoing. With just 24 correct today, though, Matt would pass the 300 correct response milestone on the show.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Between the end of the Spanish-American War and shortly after World War II, the Philippines was an American territory (Spain ceded the land to the United States); thus, their “Independence Day” was celebrated on July 4. The U.S. completed granted independence to the Philippines in 1946; in 1964, June 12 was selected as the country’s Independence Day, in recognition of Emilio Aguinaldo’s 1898 Declaration of Independence.

Wow, this is the first ultra high adrenaline match since Brayden Smith’s 5th victory where he prevailed after the game show equivalent of a bare knuckled bar fist fight with David Kaye. Props to Christina for making Matt work for it this time. She kept it exciting right up to the last Daily Double. And Harry managed to sneak up nicely too. I was torn but yes, I’m fully on the Matt train.
