Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Disney Characters) for Thursday, March 24, 2022 (Season 38, Game 139):
In the source material from more than 3 centuries ago, her name was Badr al-Budur, “full moon of full moons”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Omar Khalid, a public health official from New Orleans, Louisiana![]() |
Ciara Donegan, an undergraduate student from Towson, Maryland![]() |
Tim McCaigue, an app developer from San Diego, California (1-day total: $16,800)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:Tim McCaigue won his first game yesterday after a very strong performance (having a runaway after Double Jeopardy.) The pair of challengers today includes Ciara Donegan (pronounced like “Keira”), who is the twin sister of Kristin Donegan, who lost in the recent Jeopardy! National College Championship semifinals in the tiebreaker to Liz Feltner. It’s believed that Ciara and Kristin are the siblings who have appeared on Jeopardy! the closest to each other (34 days between Kristin’s last appearance and Ciara’s appearance today); the previous record is believed to be 41 days (in 2008) between Larissa Kelly’s last regular play appearance and the return of Arianna Kelly.

Princess Jasmine, named Badr al-Budur in the story of Aladdin in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (The Arabian Nights), was renamed to Jasmine for the 1992 Disney animated retelling of the story. Interestingly, the stories of both Aladdin and Ali Baba were not originally part of the Arabic version of the work, but were added in by Frenchman Antoine Galland after he had heard the stories from the Syrian storyteller Hanna Diab.

Game Recap:
Jeopardy! Round categories: Mythological Endings; Classic Cars; Fast Fact; If You Liked It; Then You Should Have…; Put a “Ring” on It.
Ciara took a couple of clues to get going, but when she did, she really did, picking up 10 correct responses before the first break! She definitely mastered the signalling device. Coming out of the break, Ciara wasn’t quite as dominant (Omar picked up 8 correct himself), but she did pick up $3,000 on the round’s Daily Double; the University of Maryland student held a $9,200-$6,200 lead over Omar after Single Jeopardy (Tim sat third at $3,600).
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: Austria’s Borders; 20th Century Fiction; Sci. & Med. Abbrev.; Feud Origins; It’s a Race; Double Meanings.
Unfortunately for Tim, him finding both Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy! didn’t really help pull him out of third place as he was otherwise dominated on the signalling device by both challengers (Ciara picking up 10 correct and Omar picking up 8 himself.) Scores going into Final were Ciara at $19,600, with Omar in second at $13,800 and Tim in third at $11,200.
Unlike yesterday, Final Jeopardy! was a triple get, and Ciara found herself becoming the second college student over the course of a week to become Jeopardy! champion! She’ll return tomorrow.

Final Jeopardy! betting suggestions:
Tim: If Ciara bets the minimum cover bet, you can’t win unless you’re correct. You might as well go all-in to maximize your winnings on a single-get Final.
Ciara: $8,001 is the standard cover bet today.
Omar: You’re in Stratton’s Dilemma today and can’t both win a Double Stumper and cover Tim. Because Tim has occasion to go all-in himself, though, you need to cover him. That cover bet is $8,601.

Easy one, at least for me. I’d suppose anyone with a passing familiarity with the Disney movie and The Thousand and One Nights should guess it.
Current FJ streak – 1W
Figured it had to be someone from Aladdin (given that the name sounded middle-eastern) and if you’re thinking female characters from that movie… there’s not many named options. Had to be Jasmine.
Easy one since watching Disney’s Aladdin movies and reading about one thousand one Arabian nights helped me here. Congrats to Ciara on her win. I think she could get a streak running hopefully.
Finn Corrigan from earlier in the week was an alternate for the recent Jeopardy! National College Championship and Ciara’s twin sister was a semifinalist in the College Championship. Can we surmise from this that Ciara was also an alternate in the College Championship? It seems likely that she was.
My son’s favorite Disney character is Jasmine and he dressed as Aladdin on several occasions (Halloween and such) so today’s FJ was an easy get for us.
A very strong debut from Ciara. She made her presence known early.
If my memory serves, this was the 4th game in a row that the contestant from the middle podium/position won. And 6 of the past 7 games were won by the middle contestant (only exception being Finn’s 2nd win)
After today’s win, Ciara and her sister Kristin are at least the second set of twins to have both won at least one game, joining Phyllis & Paula Massengale (Seasons 5 & 6). Phyllis was a 1-game champ, while Paula won 4 games.
