Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, December 19, 2022

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the December 19, 2022, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Brand Names) for Monday, December 19, 2022 (Season 39, Game 71):

Unable to make these candies perfectly round, the confectioner embraced this flawed name for the product

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Miranda Onnen, an assistant Attorney General from Astoria, New York
Miranda Onnen on Jeopardy!
Andrew Schmidt, an automotive marketing consultant from Roswell, Georgia
Andrew Schmidt on Jeopardy!
Ray Lalonde, a scenic artist from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (2-day total: $60,600)
Ray Lalonde on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

It’s time for a new week on Jeopardy!, and your returning champion is Ray Lalonde. He’s won two games and over $60,000 at this point. How long into the new week will his streak last?

A couple of notes regarding today’s game: Today is a travel day for me—assuming the weather doesn’t turn any worse here—thus, there might be delays in terms of results and statistics. The second important note is that I am taking a Twitter break. I no longer wish to provide content for a website run by its current ownership, as I believe the website is turning into a cesspool of hate—with the current leadership enthusiastically joining in the bullying and hatred. I hope that Jeopardy! itself chooses to follow suit in the near future.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

According to the current owners of the brand—Hershey—Milk Duds were introduced in the late 1920s; the brand got its name because F. Hoffman & Co. of Chicago, the initial manufacturer, were unable to get the chocolate-covered caramels completely round. Thus, they were called “duds”, and the brand name Milk Duds took off.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Ken’s going “It’ll come down to the wager” at the end is a nice throwback to what Alex did, especially in the late ’80s. (Can you tell I’ve been watching a lot of old episodes recently?)
  • Today’s box score: December 19, 2022 Box Score.

  1. Ken needs to be better prepped to rule quickly on responses. No reason to drag it out when a response doesn’t fit the format required by the clue, as happened twice today.
