Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
It’s time for a new week of Jeopardy! episodes; this is scheduled to be Ken Jennings’ final week of episodes this season. Our returning champion is Canadian, and a librarian named Emma: Winnipeg librarian Emma Hill Kepron has two victories! Her challengers today are Dillon Hupp from Arkansas and Année Rousseau from Alameda.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Just a reminder to all fans that the rules of Jeopardy! are such that when referring to song titles (and song titles only) that if a contestant gives a correct lyric that contains the correct title, the judges will rule the contestant correct. (It’s known by longtime fans as the “Drive My Car” rule after “Baby, You Can Drive My Car” was accepted in Final Jeopardy on May 31, 2005.)
- On today’s Inside Jeopardy!, even Sarah and Buzzy expressed disappointment at contestants who go back to the same category as the first Daily Double when trying to find the second one. It’s not going to be there. Stop doing it.
- Today’s box score: April 24, 2023 Box Score.

Andy’s comment about the “Baby you can drive my car rule” answered my question about one of Dillion’s responses in the Beatles “S”ongs category. Ken seem to hesitate in ruling him either correct, or, wrong, since he seemed to haven given a line of the lyric, and, not the title. With that hesitation Dillion looked off stage ( to the producer’s table?) But since the line of the lyric contained the title,he was ruled to have given the correct response. This rule seems to br the same as one used in some versions of Name That Tune, where as long as what is responded with has the correct song title, it’s acceptible.
This Final Jeopardy was like another recent one. If I could of visualized Wyoming, Colorado, and, New Mexico on an Atlas I might’ve gotten this FJ. But again, like the other geography FInal Jeopardy, I couldn’t, so I didn’t have the correct response
I am always thinking that it is easy to visualize ‘The Four Corners’ region (made by Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico) and I’m aware of Wyoming being right above Colorado due to news over the last few months concerning blizzards and Northern Lights [visible in Wyoming, but only in the most northern parts of Colorado], but as I explained separately, due to my slight familiarity with Flagstaff’s elevation, I guessed wrong whether the 3rd capital was of Arizona or New Mexico.
Interesting that the song lyric rule creates an incentive to provide more lyrics rather than try for accuracy and undershoot.
Wonder what would happen if one got the lyric WRONG but the ‘title’ portion of what was said was correct?
