Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 19th Century Women) for Friday, July 19, 2024 (Season 40, Game 225):
The National Park Service says there are more statues of her, often with her infant son, than any other American woman
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Neilesh Vinjamuri, a software engineer from Lionville, Pennsylvania![]() |
Dave Gutierrez, a logistics director from Fox River Grove, Illinois![]() |
Jay Fisher, a government relations manager from Lisle, Illinois (3-day total: $28,200)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Jay Fisher has 3 victories and goes today for a very important victory #4 in today’s game against Illinois’s Dave Gutierrez and Pennsylvania’s Neilesh Vinjamuri. There has been some talk about how Neilesh has quiz bowl experience; it’s always interesting to see how that sort of experience translates for a player—some quiz bowlers have done much better than others on the Alex Trebek Stage.

According to the National Park Service, “there are more statues dedicated to Sacagawea than to any other American women. While most memorials are along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, one proudly stands in Washington, D.C., in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.” Sacagawea’s D.C. statue, representing North Dakota in the Capitol, is a replica of one from the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck.

“Who is Sacagawea?” “National Park Service” and “infant son” were the clue elements that gave it to me.
I thought that was pretty easy peasy. What other woman would you even connect with the park service at all?
Exactly. I truly thought this was going to be a triple get. Really surprised that 2 out of 3 missed it. Sacagawea and her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, are all over that dollar coin (but who uses dollar coins anymore).
As soon as I read the clue I said Sacajawea. (That was the spelling used for the elementary school named for her. I didn’t even need the infant part of the clue, but that solidified my response.
Sacagawea was the only woman that came to mind when I saw “infant son”. Great way to end the week after I was stumped on yesterday’s clue.
Same here. As well as the fact that her contribution to American history involved traveling over what is now many states, thus many locations to want to honor her with a statue.
I wonder how forgiving they’re going to be on possible alternate spellings. That tripped me up more than realizing who it was.
I think as long as any misspelling is still phonetically correct (or close to it) it’ll be fine, but we’ll see once the episode actually airs.
I didn’t know the stuff about the National Park Service, but I knew enough about Sacagawea to know that she carried her child throughout most of the journey, so that helped me get it pretty quickly. Nice to end the week on a get, especially with bronchitis.
Now, I wonder how that Ron Waxman guy will respond to the Final Jeopardy clue tonight. IYKYK 🙂
MasterDoge!
So sorry to hear about the lung issues. Hope for a smooth and speedy recovery.
Feel better soon MasterDoge!
There was only one woman that I could think of and it was Sacagawea.
Good thing tonight that I can watch Jeopardy! at its’ regular time slot, instead of after 11 pm.
Yes! Jeopardy! At its regular time. We don’t realize how routine-oriented we are until something shakes up our day/evening.
I didn’t have a very good week with FJ! Of course I would get one that everyone else will get. Lol Still, it’s a nice way to end the week.
I’m not clear on how I came up with the correct response, but I finished the week getting the Finaal Jeopardy that it seems most everyone got as well. If I was playing I hope the judges would be forgiving in terms of spellinig, because I’d have to spell Sacagawea phoenically. (I scrolled back and forth here to get the right spelling.
As Ken usually says, “there is lots of money to be won in Double Jeopardy.”
Neilesh proved that. Got on a hot sreak and came from appearing he would make Final Jeopardy, to having the lead entering Final Jeopardy with a runaway, and, winning.
If it helps, it helps, even IF not exactly logical. By this, I refer to anyone saying that “the National Park Service” itself leads them to Sacagawea as the response. I say this because the Park Service is in charge of lots of places that contain statues, so their “reporting” would be the reference for ANY statue that there is the most of or the biggest or whatever, not just because the clue was about Sacagawea (who is most associated with areas of the country where there are lots of famous national parks).
I immediately blurted out Sacagawea at my TV. Nice to end the week on a good note in FJ. 🙂 Also, it was nice to see Jeopardy back in the usual timeslot here in the greater LA area.
Retro congrats to Neilesh on the comeback (and runaway) win. He seemed quite flustered in the Jeopardy round. I am betting that the Jeopardy staff offered encouragement after that Jeopardy round ended. They treat their contestants well and will try get them to calm between rounds.
One week to go in Season 40 and then Season 41 will start on September 9th.
Have a great week everyone! 🙂
