Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category U.S. History) for Friday, October 25, 2024 (Season 41, Game 35):

(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Olaf Talbert, a retired U.S. Navy officer & research assistant from Pensacola, Florida![]() |
Carol Lowe, a photographer from Conway, North Carolina![]() |
Will Wallace, a game design director from Austin, Texas (3-day total: $55,598)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
As we move on to the end of Week 7 of Season 41 of Jeopardy, Will Wallace finds himself looking to win his fourth game. I get the sense that Will is aware of ToC possibilities, after yesterday’s game saw him go nearly all-in from the lead in Final—presumably to move himself up the list of three-time winners in terms of money won. Today, he faces off against Carol Lowe and Olaf Talbert.
And, in another episode of “Hollywood Is Ultimately Filled With Terrible People In Charge,” Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune were the subject of race discrimination claims, as reported yesterday in the USA Today. Honestly, these claims are numerous enough and date far enough back that they can’t specifically be pinned on a single boss, but instead point to a systemic issue within Hollywood itself. Obviously, Sony Pictures Television should strive to be as diverse as possible, but I can’t say I’m particularly surprised when stories such as this surface.

Correct response: What is Jackson Square?

Jackson Square in New Orleans is home to The Cabildo—then the town hall—which is where the Louisiana Purchase with France—the largest land dead in U.S. history—was finalized in 1803. The area was renamed Jackson Square in 1815 following the Battle of New Orleans at the end of the War of 1812.
I actually like this clue in terms of the paths in—you can know the fact itself, or you can reason out that the Louisiana Purchase was finalized in New Orleans, and that Andrew Jackson is the “military hero and President” most associated with that city. We’ll see how the world does with this clue today.

Love today’s FJ clue, although I admit that I couldn’t quite work it out in 30 seconds.
Of course I thought of the Louisiana Purchase. Had that been what they were looking for, I would have been correct. BUT I was not aware of the Jackson Square issue.
I saw that this Final Jeopardy when it mentioned the “largest land deal in US history” meant the Louisiana Purchase. But like Thomas, Jackson Square in New Orleans, wasn’t something I knew. finished the week 2 for 5.
Could only come up with Jacksonville, which I knew was wrong. Never heard of Jackson Square.
A lucky educated guess and I am at 27-8 for the season so far. The land purchase clue was the biggest aid in working this one out for me.
Apropos Andy’s comments, I went the Louisiana Purchase route. Louisiana Purchase to New Orleans to Andrew Jackson to Jackson Square. I feel sure a lot of people went that way.
That’s what I did, too, down to the level of ‘Jackson’, but did not know what the location would be since I’m pretty sure I have never heard of Jackson Square.
The only city I am familiar with is Nashville, TN whose only square is ‘Courthouse Square’, no “named” ones, so I could only think of Jacksonville or just Jackson (but didn’t know which of many states that could be and would be abandoning New Orleans, which I was pretty sure I should not).
This was one of those I got right but could not tell you where or how I learned it.
Didn’t know. Knew the deal, but not the name Jackson Square. Big 0 for 5 for the week and 5 for 35 on the season.
