The Kit Kat Club, from the famous musical Cabaret, is said to have been inspired by Eldorado, a queer nightclub in Berlin during the Weimar Republic era. Its final location, at Motzstraße 15, was seized by the Nazis in early 1933 to use as the headquarters for the Sturmabteilung (better known as the Brownshirts). Due to the near-complete eradication of references to LGBTQ+ life in Germany by the Nazis, the club likely would have been forgotten today had it not been for the novels of Christopher Isherwood as well as Cabaret.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:
Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Monday, October 28, 2024 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:
Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: World History; Books & Arthurs; On The “D-E-L”; Complete The Rhyming Phrase; Advertising; Musical Nicknames)
Both challengers had a great start on the signaling device; Ian led as a result of him picking up $2,000 on the Daily Double. After 15 clues, Ian had $4,600 to Heather’s $3,600 and Will’s $1,000.
Statistics at the first break (15 clues):
Ian 5 correct 1 incorrect
Heather 8 correct 1 incorrect
Will 2 correct 0 incorrect
Today’s interviews:
Heather got to play hot dog-themed Jeopardy at a party this summer.
Ian has had bad luck as a wedding guest with teeth falling out.
Will has been trying to view every Bruegel the Elder painting.
Despite an incorrect response on the round’s final clue, Ian picked up seven correct to jump into a big lead after 30 clues.
Statistics after the Jeopardy round:
Ian 12 correct 2 incorrect
Heather 10 correct 2 incorrect
Will 5 correct 0 incorrect
Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:
Ian $8,800
Heather $3,800
Will $2,400
Double Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: Extreme Canada; Exclamations!; Mythological Resumes; Medical Matters; Caution; Compound Word Construction Zone)
Will got DD2 barely incorrect (but I believe the ruling was 100% proper), then Ian’s struggles on the Canada category were compounded by DD3 being there. Ian getting that clue incorrect gave both challengers a chance to pull themselves back into contention going into Final Jeopardy.
Statistics after Double Jeopardy:
Ian 24 correct 6 incorrect
Heather 14 correct 2 incorrect
Will 14 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 2 (0 today).
Scores going into Final:
Ian $17,400
Heather $9,800
Will $8,000
Heather got Final Jeopardy correct, putting the pressure on Ian. But a correct response from Ian gave him the title of Jeopardy champion; he’ll be back tomorrow to defend.
Tonight’s results:
Will $8,000 – $7,998 = $2 (What is Rick’s?)
Heather $9,800 + $9,800 = $19,600 (What is the Kit Kat Club)
Ian $17,400 + $2,201 = $19,601 (What is the Kit Kat Club?) (1-day total: $19,601)

I just guessed Cabaret. I’ve never seen the musical, but I knew the setting, and hoped that would be the name of the club.
I’ve seen (and liked) the movie, but I could not remember the name of the club (or whether it was mentioned in the movie at all).
The August Wilson Theatre, site of the current Broadway revival of Cabaret, actually has Kit Kat Club on its marquee. Not that this would help you, if you don’t follow Broadway.
Motzstraße 15 is nowadays Motzstraße 24, an organic grocery store, with “ELDORADO” in the same font as the historical neon lights sign, stenciled above the entrance.
I’ve never watched Cabaret the movie, much less the musical. Yet somehow the Final Jeopardy clue (answer) somehow lead my brain to say initially “What is Cabaret?” then quickly corrected myself to say “What is the Kit Kat Club?”
Andy;
You have consistently have tried to educate us on the correct way to prounce Newfoundland. How did Will do? (At least he knew enough to include Labrador in the name of the province, after being prompted.)
Could just be me being tired, but I heard him pronounce it to rhyme with Maryland and not Disneyland (how it’s supposed to be pronounced), sooooo…
So….
Andy’s campaign to educate us Americans in the correct prounciaion of Newfoundland continues. (Begining to found like the line from the opening to the 1950’s Superman TV show- “A everending battle”.
I wonder if a response of “the setting for Cabaret” would have been accepted, or if it would have been treated like Cliff’s response. 🙂
Based off past precedent, that probably falls under the “nothing in your response is technically wrong, but we can’t give you credit” umbrella.
I saw the original with Joel Grey on Broadway back in 1966, nearly 60 years ago. The indelible impression that made on me at the time made this an easy get for me. This FJ really took me back to a fond memory. Gosh, I’m getting old. Not “getting,” I am old, lol.
Rather than use my comment to talk about my success (lack thereof) with this Final, I’m using it to commend Ian on his exceptional wager on DD3!
Ian was in an extremely tricky spot with this bet. With him at $14,800, Heather at $7,800, and there being $7,200 worth of clues left on the board, there’s no wager that could possibly guarantee Ian a lead going into Final if he’s incorrect. Whether this was by deliberate choice or partly a result of his having already negged twice in EXTREME CANADA, I don’t know, but the $1,000 bet was very, very good, both if correct and incorrect.
If Ian is correct, he goes up to $15,800; not only does this guarantee him a lead going into Final, as long as he STAYs CLAM on the remaining seven clues (as Heather can only reach $15,000), but that also puts him into a runaway position and forces one of the two competitors to at least attempt to break the lock. On the flip side, if Ian is incorrect, he only falls to $13,800; still enough for a commanding lead, but it also takes Will out of contention for the lead, as Will can only get up to $13,600 – so assuming Ian STAYs CLAM, he guarantees second going into Final, and almost certainly the lead if Will gets any of the bottom three clues in COMPOUND WORD CONSTRUCTION ZONE.
In conclusion, I tip my hat to Ian for one of the best strategic moves on a Daily Double all season long 🙂
I had no idea. 0 for 1 on the week and 5 for 36 on the season. .139 Batting Average. At least my LA Dodgers are playing better than me and can go for the sweep tomorrow. 🙂
With game 4 starting around 5pm Pacific, and, Jeopardy starting at 7pm Pacific, how many DVR’s will be set for Jeopardy while the Dodgers try to sweep?
I don’t have a DVR bill! So I switch to radio while Jeopardy is on at 7. 🙂
So you’re doing about the same as Aaron Judge this month?
Yes Gary! I like when Aaron does it!
