8-day champion Ben Jones, having cleared the £50,000 mark in winnings, goes for victory #9 in the penultimate episode of Series 2. Seb Bate of Manchester and Reena Patel of Harrow are looking to end Ben’s win streak.

I should also point out that it appears as though Series 1 is going to be rerun on ITV beginning next week, in case anyone missed those games.

6 Comments on "Jeopardy! UK Game Recap – Wednesday, April 23, 2025"

  1. Started panicking when I saw 19TH CENTURY PAINTINGS as the Final Jeopardy category, but luckily, I was able to connect “Arrangement” and “No. 1” with Whistler’s Mother. The US streak may be snapped, but the UK streak (I also got L. Frank Baum yesterday) is still going strong!

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Ben’s breadth of knowledge (especially considering his very young age) is nothing short of remarkable, and I can only imagine how thrilling it must be to watch him for those who can actually do so! His total today, as a matter of fact, actually bumps one of his previous paydays off the Top 5 list of single-game records (I keep track of those sorts of stats on my iPad’s notes app) – and he’s, of course, at nearly DOUBLE what Michael Hutchinson won over his streak, along with being the sole holder of the longest streak on the UK version.

I hope to see Ben close out the series with a win tomorrow (also becoming the 19th player across every version of Jeopardy to have won at least 10 games), but even if he doesn’t, his run has been absolutely incredible and a thrill to keep track of!

  2. Knew this from having attended an exhibition of Whistler paintings several years ago.

Happy St. George’s Day to our UK friends!

  3. I immediately thought “Isn’t that the actual title of ‘Whistler’s Mother’?” but I was very surprised if it was on display at a museum in PARIS, so that made me doubt my knowledge. It turns out that I was correct to doubt my knowledge, but the knowledge of its location, not its title.

    Thanks Gregory, much appreciated!

I absolutely agree about Ben, MasterDoge, he’s been so good to watch. Bad luck to Reena and Seb today. It must be so hard to do well against Ben.

I had the same idea as Seb on FJ.

By the way, Lisa, apologies, I was reading through old entries the other day looking for something and realised that on the page for the UK episode on 18 March you asked about my response to the FJ asking for the name of the seventh in line to the throne and I didn’t notice until now. The belated answer is that I simply can never remember the order of succession! For years I was under the impression that Charles’ siblings were next after him, and although I’ve now realised that’s wrong, I still can’t get the order right in my head. Just wanted to take the chance to atone for missing your message while I still could, before the end of the series!

    • LOL! Thanks for the reply. It has been made simpler to keep track of by Elizabeth living so long (and having her children relatively young and her children all still being alive), giving her direct successor time to have children and grandchildren.

It is also easy to remember that the change about including females only came after all Elizabeth’s children were born (and after Charles’ too, I think) as it was not retro-active.

Whether siblings ever get to be THE heir (so ALSO how far down the rungs they are) depends on whether the first born has had any children yet. So Charlotte would follow or replace George IF something happened to him BEFORE he himself has children, but once he has children, all of them will “push” her down the rungs regardless of whether William is still alive or not. In the highly unlikely event that something happened to Charles, William, AND George before Charlotte became an adult, she would still become the monarch, but an adult would be regent until she became 18. [I did not say “and George has no children” because she will be 18 long before he has any children.]
