Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, August 11, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the August 11, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on February 10, 2025.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Men of War) for Monday, August 11, 2025 (Season 41, Game 111):

Robert E. Lee’s victory at Chancellorsville has been likened to this Greek’s victory at Asculum in 279 B.C.

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Neilesh Vinjamuri, a software engineer from Lionville, Pennsylvania (0 wins)
Neilesh Vinjamuri on Jeopardy!
Isaac Hirsch, a customer support team lead from Burbank, California (0 wins)
Isaac Hirsch on Jeopardy!
Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana (1 win)
Adriana Harmeyer on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Week 3 of the encore presentations of Season 41 continues with the finals of the 32nd Tournament of Champions.

As I said back in February, “Adriana took first blood on Friday with a savvy wager in Final Jeopardy. Isaac Hirsch and Neilesh Vinjamuri will be looking to rebound, while Adriana will be looking for a second victory. Adriana’s first victory has turned her into the favorite to win, as per the [then-]newly-unveiled Unified Prediction Model; after all, it’s much easier to win two games than it is three.”

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Taking place from April 30–May 6, 1863, Chancellorsville was a major battle of the Civil War. While the battle itself generally went well for the Confederacy, it has now been seen as a “Pyrrhic victory”, as major Confederate general Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded by friendly fire; Confederate soldiers mistook the general and his staff for Union cavalry.

The term “Pyrrhic victory” originates from the Battle of Asculum that took place in southeastern Italy in 279 B.C., where the forces of Pyrrhus of Epirus technically won the battle, but it was later related by Plutarch that when Pyrrhus received congratulations for his victory, he said “one other such victory would utterly undo him.” According to Plutarch, “he had lost a great part of his forces he brought with him, and almost all his particular friends and and principal commanders”.
