Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, February 3, 2021

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category European Royalty) for Wednesday, February 3, 2021 (Season 37, Game 93):

In 1653 King Louis XIV performed as this Greco-Roman god in the ballet “De La Nuit”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

In case you missed it: Jeopardy! announced four more guest hosts yesterday. Three of those picks are a good idea. The fourth is a nearly unanimously unpopular pick with fans and former contestants alike.

Today’s contestants:

Paul Acosta, a former support services clerk from Los Angeles, California
Paul Acosta on Jeopardy!
Nicole Kozdron, an attorney originally from Elyria, Ohio
Nicole Kozdron on Jeopardy!
Steve Crupi, a retired police department information supervisor from Las Vegas, Nevada (2-day total: $22,000)
Steve Crupi on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Defying the prediction model, Steve has won two games so far. His win yesterday, though, was buoyed by the very underrated skill of “avoiding incorrect responses”, and that would be the key to victory for him going forward. If not, though, the chances are high that we’ll see a new champion tonight.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Louis XIV was a lover of ballet and an eager ballet dancer; the 14-year-old Louis XIV debuted as Apollo, The Sun King; this has since been cited as one reason why Louis chose the Sun as a symbol of his reign. During his ballet career, Louis performed dozens of roles and integrated the art form into noble French society.

  1. If only to be the contestant who gets to say “Butthead” on Jeopardy. Good job, Nicole!

  2. This show seemed to be somewhat less erudite that that with which we are accustomed. For a rare episode, I was yelling at my TV. As to which my wife can attest, that is, indeed, a rarity. Nonetheless, I continue on. I do hope that the new champion shows any degree of challenge or being adventurous, but, it seems unlikely.

    • I thought the triple stumpers in the DJ round were mostly rather easy. Not just my opinion, since most were in the top rows. Chavez was relatively easy for a $2K clue on the last one. Not their subjects I take it.
