Warning: This page contains spoilers for the January 17-18, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on April 24, 2025.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Historic Names) for January 17-18, 2026 (Season 41, Game 164):
He was riding back from the conquest of Granada when he was summoned to a royal meeting that would change history
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Harold Goldston III, a karaoke bar owner from Knoxville, Tennessee
|
Raguell Couch, an undergraduate student from Durham, North Carolina
|
Liam Starnes, an undergraduate student from Barrington, Illinois (4-day total: $81,801)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
As we enter into the Tournament of Champions in main Jeopardy! time, rerun Jeopardy! time features Liam Starnes going for victory #5 against Raguell Couch and Harold Goldston III. Interestingly, this was a game that saw a lot of preemptions back in April, so I am glad in a way that this game is being rerun.

Christopher Columbus was present at the 1492 Spanish conquest of Granada in what is now southern Spain; as he was returning, he was summoned to have an audience with Ferdinand and Isabella, as he was permitted to take an ocean voyage westward—the now-famous “discovered America” voyage as many Caribbean islands were claimed for the Spanish.

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the January 17-18, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:
Game Recap:
Liam did a much better job on the Daily Doubles than Raguell did, in that he outscored Raguell $6,600 to $2,000, with that difference making up $4,600 for the $5,400 between the two undergrads entering Final. Meanwhile, Harold struggled throughout the entire game and was not around for Final Jeopardy.
Raguell not being in a slightly better position ended up being moot as Liam got Final Jeopardy correct and Raguell did not, making Liam a 5-time champion. Next week will see Liam take on Simon Liebling and Jenn Gardner in his sixth game.
Scores going into Final:
Liam $16,000
Raguell $10,600
Harold -$2,200
Tonight’s results:
Harold -$2,200 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Raguell $10,600 – $10,502 = $98 (Who is Churchill (hi mom + dad!))
Liam $16,000 + $5,201 = $21,201 (Who is Columbus?) (5-day total: $103,002)

Game Stats:
Liam $12,000 Coryat, 20 correct, 5 incorrect, 35.09% in first on buzzer (20/57), 1/3 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
